Breast Enlargement (implants)

Implants for breast enlargement Getting a breast enlargement is a big decision. It can be costly, the outcomes are not certain, and there are risks to consider.

It involves placing breast implants in the breasts to alter their shape, increase their size, or make them more uniform.

However, before proceeding, confirm your reasons for wanting them. Take some time to consider your decision. Read our article “Is cosmetic surgery right for me?” for some assistance. and to first talk about it with your doctor.

If the implant has a problem and needs to be taken out, you usually have to pay for any replacement and additional surgery.

What should I do?
Check the Care Quality Commission (CQC) website for treatment facilities that are able to carry out the procedure.

In order to provide cosmetic surgery in Breast Augmentation Surgery in Abu Dhabi, independent clinics and hospitals must all be registered with the CQC. To assist individuals in selecting care, the CQC publishes inspection reports and performance ratings.

Additionally, investigate the surgeon who will fit your breast implants. The General Medical Council (GMC) requires all doctors to at least be registered. The doctor’s fitness to practice history can be found in the register.

What is it about?
General anesthesia is used during breast implant surgery.

The procedure entails:

making an incision (cut) in the skin above or below the breast, placing the implant either between your breast tissue and chest muscle or behind your chest muscle, stitching the incision, and dressing it. The procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes.

If the surgery was scheduled late in the day, you might be able to go home that same day, but you might have to spend the night in the hospital.

If you experience any discomfort afterward, pain medication is provided.

Choosing your implants Although saline implants are also available, silicone gel implants are the ones that are used the most in the UK.

The implant shape and type that is best for you should be discussed with you by your surgeon; however, the following is a rough guide.

Implants made of silicone gel These implants can be filled with the firm or soft silicone gel. Cohesive gel implants are those that are filled with firmer gel. A coating of polyurethane covers some.

Pros: Generally, wrinkles are less likely than with saline implants. The type that is soft can have a natural feel. It is claimed that polyurethane-coated implants lower the risk of capsular contracture and implant rotation (see What could go wrong).

Cons: Silicone can spread into your breast and cause silicon mass if a soft gel implant ruptures; see What could go wrong. If cohesive implants are used, this is much less of a problem, but the firmer gel may not feel as natural. They may temporarily irritate the skin due to the polyurethane coating.
